چکیده

Background Demonstration of myocardial oedema following MI allows differentiation of acute and chronic MI, and assessment of the area at risk of infarction. T2-weighted dark blood TSE imaging for oedema is technically demanding and prone to artefacts. Our protocol for patients with acute MI include standard oedema imaging sequences and more recently T2 prepared single shot SSFP sequences, followed by adenosine-stress perfusion imaging. The short axis SSFP cine stack is performed immediately after the perfusion study in an early post contrast phase (2-3 minutes). We observed that the cine stack in this protocol showed high signal in the infarct area correlating with the distribution of oedema on T2-weighted sequences. We hypothesized that SSFP-cine images early post contrast might be a more robust and time efficient alternative to T2-weighted imaging with TSE sequences.

T2-prepared SSFP improves diagnostic confidence in edema imaging in acute myocardial infarction compared to turbo spin echo.

T2-weighted MRI of edema in acute myocardial infarction (MI) provides a means of differentiating acute and chronic MI, and assessing the area at risk of infarction. Conventional T2-weighted imaging of edema uses a turbo spin-echo (TSE) readout with dark-blood preparation. Clinical applications of dark-blood TSE methods can be limited by artifacts such as posterior wall signal loss due to throug...

ACUT2E TSE-SSFP: a hybrid method for T2-weighted imaging of edema in the heart.

ACUT(2)E TSE-SSFP is a hybrid between steady state free precession (SSFP) and turbo spin echo (TSE) for bright-blood T2-weighted imaging with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) similar to dark-blood TSE. TSE-SSFP uses a segmented SSFP readout during diastole with 180 degrees pulses following a 90 degrees preparation. The 180 degrees refocusing pulses make TSE-SSFP sim...

Detection of myocardial edema with diffusion weighted imaging in patients with acute myocarditis

Methods We have analyzed 26 consecutive patients: 22 male, average age: 27 years (range 13-43) with clinical diagnosis of acute myocarditis. The CMR examinations were performed on a 1,5 T scanner using an eight-channel phasedarray coil combined with 4-6 elements of spinal coil. All patients underwent assessment of myocardial oedema: T2weighted triple inversion recovery (STIR), T1-weighted turbo...

A 50-year-old man presented with acute chest pain that had started about 6 hours prior to admission to our emergency department. His resting ECG revealed an STelevation myocardial infarction with typical ST-segment elevation in the leads V1 through V4 and reciprocal ST-segment depression. Consequently, immediate coronary angiography was performed and revealed a proximally occluded left anterior...

Improved T2-Weighted Cardiac Imaging using Retrospective Motion Correction and Optimal Image Combination

Introduction T2-weighted (T2w) cardiac MR imaging has established reputation as a sensitive technique to depict myocardial edema related to acute infarction. Together with delayed enhancement technique, T2w demonstrated valuable clinical potentials to differentiate acute damage from chronic infarction [1]. To minimize the myocardial signal loss caused by through-plane motion, T2w can be perform...
